Lapidairy~Tiger Eye
By Kat Clark Art by Robin Ator

Greetings, all! Bo Rua here, on a glorious Litha morning. Things really get fired up around the dairy when mid-summer comes to pass. The grass is green, the fruit is ripening, and everyone seems enlivened by warmth and sunshine. I know in some parts of the world, winter has taken its hold, but for us it is a time of longer days and greater illumination.

The summer sun puts me in mind of a stone we frequently come upon here at the diary. It can actually come in a variety of colors, but the most common for us is a banded honey yellow that looks like the eye of a wild cat. No wonder it is called tiger’s eye!

This is a gem after Sol’s own heart. It’s warm and invigorating, and helps blend sun and earth energies for use by people and animals alike. Summer is a busy time, not only on a farm but everywhere. There is much to be accomplished, and tiger’s eye helps you set your goals and see exactly what it is you need to do to achieve your desires. It removes all kinds of blockages, especially those stumbling blocks to creativity. Need to think of a new way of doing an old task? Need some fresh ideas, or just can’t seem to write the next line of your poem or new song? Carry a tiger’s eye!

This stone is also very protective. It not only keeps you from harm, but also turns back any ill wishes. It’s very helpful in keeping your mood positive and productive. Since young folks are more active in summer months - skating, bicycling, playing sports – more accidents can also happen. It’s good to know that tiger’s eye helps mend broken bones and stimulates health and strength.

Because it is very like a tiger’s eye in appearance, it is also thought to improve vision. Not only does it aid your physical sight, but your spiritual one as well! Place a tiger’s eye on your “third eye” (right in the middle of your forehead--for a fun activity on how you can exercise your third eye, visit Book of Shadows!). It will help increase your psychic gifts.

Finally, tiger’s eye helps you calm, relax and recharge after a long day at work or play. In the evening, or right before going to bed, sit quietly with a tiger’s eye in each hand and let the golden glow of its energy bath you in soothing light. You’ll be up with the sun and ready to go next morning. Try it and see for yourself. After all, as we say in Irish: “is leor nod don eolach” (iss lyor nud dun oh-lok)--“ a hint is sufficient for the wise.”

Blessings of the Goddess and good Litha to you all!
