Spellworx~Samhain Protection~We've Got You Covered!
By Natalie Zaman

Ever notice how things always seem to go a little wonky at this time of year? Usually, it's nothing dangerous--like, maybe you misplace a book you're reading more than once. Or maybe stuff around your house gets moved around, or things go missing only to turn up sometime in November. Yes, Samhain-tide is tricky, so doing something extra to protect yourself is a good idea.

For this spellwork you'll need nothing but yourself and a little quiet time. This is a good exercise to do before you go out trick-or-treating.

Before you go out, sit in a quiet place and picture yourself with a blue light around you. Start at your feet and work your way up , picturing each part of you bathed in sky-colored light. What you are doing is putting a glow of protection around yourself.

Whe you have a clear image in your mind of yourself surrounded by the light, say this spell (or make up one of your own!)

When I go out this Samhain-tide,
And the gates are open wide
Let those who love me but are gone,
God and Goddess, Father and Crone
Walk by my side, surround me with light
And keep me safe this long dark night.

The nice thing about this spell work is that you can put a blue light around others too, to send them some protective energy. You can use this exercise any time you feel you need a little extra protection. All you need to do is write a spell that focuses your intention (and don't forget to put it in your BOOK OF SHADOWS!)

If you like, you can use a black or blue candle (both of these colors have protective properties) to help you with this work--just make sure that an adult is present when candles are lit! Also, visit the LAPI-DAIRY to see how carrying an obsidian will give your spell and extra boost!

Remember: DO NOT SUBSTITUTE THIS OR ANY RITUAL FOR PRACTICING SAFE BEHAVIOR! Just like magic can't replace studying to help you ace that math test, it can't replace common sense. Visit HEARTH AND HOME for some great trick-or-treat safety tips.

Have a safe and Happy Samhain!
