Spellworx Bagging some zzzzzz's
By Natalie Zaman

Here's a dream pouch to make if you're having trouble sleeping or if your dreams have been a little scary—they make nice presents too!

Tools:
Rosebuds promote healing and peace—both good for avoiding nightmares.

Cleansing and refreshing, the lavender is used for ages to scent linen closets and bedsheets. Read The Wind and The Willows—Mr. Badger tucks lavender into his guest's bedsheets so that they will sleep well!

The scent of colt's foot calms the nervous system (so it aids tranquility) but also stimulates receptors in the brain so dreams and visons are encouraged.

Together, rosebud, lavender and colts foot make a sweet smelling sachet that promotes good dreams--but there are a few more ingredients.

A must in any magical cabinet, quartz crystal acts like a magnifying glass in any spell, making it work harder.

Seashells represent the water in our bodies and connects us to the birthplace of mankind, the ocean. The Ocean cradled us and let us dream as we came into being. The spiral shell leads us into dreams and also back out again (like a path)so we also have a restful awakening in the morning.

You will also need a fabric circle with a nine (for the Goddess--three times three!) inch diameter. Your fabric can be patterned, but make it blue. The color blue is calming and also acts as barrier to negative dreams.

You will also need thread or ribbon to tie up your pouch. White is a good color for this work because it will show the purity of your intention—in this case, to have positive and creative dreams and refreshing sleep.

Before you begin the spell, wash your hands (always start a new spell with clean hands), and lay out all of your tools—including an empty bowl or dish that you will do your mixing in--so that they are ready for you to add in without thinking about it. Put the herbs in small bowls or piles that you can easily reach and take from.

Now you're ready to begin. With your fingers take three pinches of each herb (each will be about ½ a teaspoon) and put it into your empty bowl. Then, add your crystal and the seashell. Mix and combine these ingredients with your hands, and say this spell:

By herb and stone and spiral shell,
And cloth of blue and thread of white,
When stars are shining in the sky,
And the day has turned to night,
Help to bring good dreams to me,
When I'm asleep. so mote it be!

When you are done mixing your herbs it is time to put them into your pouch. Make an “O” with your thumb and fore finger.

Then with your free hand, take your fabric circle and push the center, wrong side up through the “O.” It will look like a little bag.

Hold the fabric circle carefully, and slowly put the herb mixture into it. Do this over the bowl in case you spill some, or accidentally let go of your “bag.” When it is full, hold the bag tight to form a neck.

Wrap your thread around the neck of the pouch and tie it three times.

Your dream pouch is now ready. You can keep it by your bed, or hand it from your bedpost, or tuck it into your pillowcase. Don't forget to wash your hands when you're done, and sweet dreams!
