Leaf
Table Runner
By Charlotte Bennardo
It’s that time of year; too cold to swim, and tons of fallen leaves to rake up. After you’ve finished jumping in them--put them on your table! Once the leaves start falling, gather the following:
Multicolored
leaves; use either one type of leaf or several varieties
White school glue
Paper: this can be paper to be recycled,
or brown paper bags. Cut and glue pieces together to form a long rectangle that
runs the length of the table or altar to be decorated
Scissors
Newspaper
Acorns, pinecones and other dried
plant materials (make sure they're bug free!)
Lay newspaper on the floor or table where you will work. Place the white or brown paper on the newsprint; this will be used as a base and to protect the table. Place your leaves in a random pattern, covering all the paper underneath.

When you are satisfied, glue the leaves to paper. Add acorns and other materials either in groups or separately. Remember that bowls, cups, and plates won’t lay flat on top of the acorns so you may want to leave some space clear.
Because the leaves are already dried, they are fragile and won’t last more than a few days. If you'd like to make something that will last a little longer, you can use the real leaves as patterns. You can simply trace the leaf on a piece of paper and color it in, or you can make a rubbing. Place a piece of paper on top of one of your leaves. Take the paper wrapper off a crayon, then holding the crayon horizontally, gently rub it over the paper--an impression of the leaf underneath will soon take shape (Hint--use different kinds of leaves, and fall colors (reds, oranges, yellows and golds) on brown paper, and check out Maya Made for some cool photos, step by step instructions and more ideas for this fun craft!)
