Elementary, My Dear Pagan!
By Natalie Zaman

Three--a magical number if ever there was one. Let's see, we have "the rule of three" (anything you do--good or bad--comes back to you three times), and the three faces of the god (Horned God, Hunter, Wise Man) and goddess (Maiden, Mother, Crone). In Greek mythology, the Moerae were three sisters that determined the outcome of human life. They were known as the Three Fates (CLICK HERE for a coloring page of the Fates from W. Lyon Martin!).

Three is the number of beats when you dance a waltz, and the number of wishes granted by a genii. Three is the number of the spatial demension we live in (3D!), and the number of stars in Orion's belt. Three is a complete cycle--beginning, middle and end. And how about counting to three before you do something--ready... 1... 2... 3! Three is odd (really!), triangular, and it'll help you regain your balance at the Autumnal Equinox and beyond!

How can a number--and a small one at that--help you to get grounded? Simple--and we do mean SIMPLE. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, stressed, tired or cranky (it happens to the best of us!), TAKE THREE: If it's safe to do so, stop where you are, and close your eyes. Take THREE deep breaths. Then, count to three and open your eyes.

You'll face any challenge or task better if you give yourself time to catch up and calm down. All it takes to get refreshed is a few seconds and some fresh air. Have an awesome Autumnal Equinox!
