Spring
Equinox at the Lapidairy~Rose Quartz
By Katharine Clark, Art by Robin Ator
Greetings, everyone! Bo Finn here, on this lovely Spring afternoon, visiting the shrine of my favorite goddess, Boann. Does any part of her name sound familiar? That's right, “Bo”ann is a cow goddess!
Here at the dairy, her offering bowl in made from rose quartz. That's appropriate, if you know the story behind the goddess. She was told never to approach a special, blessed well, but her curiosity got the better of her. When she came too near, the well water became furious and overflowed its containment to become the river Boyne, named for Boann. This might have been seen as an upsetting event, but the “salmon of knowledge” lived in the well. When the water overflowed, they were set free to travel the river. In that way, knowledge--if one pursued and caught it--became more accessible to everyone.
Rose quartz is a lot like that. After the harsh months have passed, change is both welcome and disorienting, especially in the Spring, when it seems like the weather flip-flops between Winter cold and Summer warmth. The world is in flux, but rose quartz helps to stabilize us!

This stone helps us adapt to change, taking negative feelings and replacing them with loving vibes. It brings harmony, beauty, self-trust, self worth and acceptance--making it easier to “go with the flow.” It releases stress, resentments, pent up feelings (like the “cabin fever” we all feel at this time of year), and aids you to relax. That's why it's often considered a “recovery stone.” It lets you get over past hurts and hard times (even anger) and open up to the possibilities coming your way!
In adults, rose quartz is a stone of romance and a tool to finding a mate. However, for young folks like yourselves, it helps increase harmony in the family, good feelings towards your friends, and the chance for making even more positive connections and friendships. On top of that, it increases creativity and writing skills--just in time for Arts and Crafts at summer camp and all those letters home, eh?
Rose quartz also increases empathy (sensing and appreciating the feelings of others) as well as sensitivity (being in touch with your own feelings). This can lead to increased psychic awareness. Leave rose quartz under your pillow, or in the four corners of your bedroom for informative dreams and glimpses of wisdom from the gods.
Good Spring to you all and continued good health. Slainte!
