Oh Holy...Fright?!
Make Your Own Krampus!
By Natalie ZamanWhat's a Yule tree without a Krampus ornament? You can crank out an army of these guys with some extra fuzzy pipe cleaners (the chenille kind) and our handy print out!
Click the Krampus above for a collection of Krampus faces. Print the sheet and cut them out.
First, we'll build Krampus's head, torso and legs. Take one pipe cleaner and fold it in half...
...then pinch it at the fold so that the sides lay tightly against each other.
Bend the two free ends up slightly--these will be Krampus's feet.
Holding both sides together so that it's like you're working with a single strand...
...fold other end (the one with the bend), down about half way down the length of the pipecleaner.
Give it a squeeze to keep all the strands lined up.
Another pipe cleaner will form Krampus's arms. Bend a new pipe cleaner in half, then grasp it at the end with the bend, and twist...
...and twist...
...and twist--all the way down to form a single strand.
Lay the arms on a flat surface, then place the body on top of the arms so that together, they form a "t" shape.
One at a time, cross each arm over to the other side and pull to secure.
You're wrapping the arms around the body and tightening them up so they stay put!
Bend the ends of the arms in slightly to form hands.
Thread a piece of ribbon or yarn through the head and tie to form a loop for hanging.
Glue Krampus's face onto the body (Hint: If you're using a black and white printer like mine, you might want to color the face before attaching it. Don't be shy about drawing your own Krampus face!).
Krampus is now ready to grace your tree--but wait! Doesn't he need some tools to take the baddies away? Here are some ideas, but we're sure you can come up with more...
Give Krampus a belt by wrapping a red or greeen pipecleaner around his waist.
Clip a few straws from a broom and tie them together to make a switch for him.
Create a chain for him to carry with pieces of silver piepcleaners linked together.
And what would Krampus be without his old friend Shaman Claus? To make Krampus's jolly pal, follow the same instructions as above, only using the Santa face (the last row of the print out sheet) and a red pipe cleaner instead of a black one. Don't forget to give Santa some accessories--remember, it's ALL about balance! Bright Yule to you!
