Honor Your Mother~Show Your Pride!
By Charlotte BennardoYou’ve seen them; maybe it’s a soccer player, or a dancer, or where your mom went to college. They are… car magnets! They represent a number of sports, causes, even religions. But some magnets are hard to find, and Wiccan or Pagan symbols are especially difficult. So let’s make our own!
You will need:
A white magnetic sheet, found in craft stores. If you have some in your kitchen junk drawer from an advertiser that are no longer used, recycle them!
Black and colored permanent markers.
Scissors
TapeIf you’re a good artist, you can draw your symbols freehand. If you’re an artistic disaster like me, CLICK HERE to go to About.com. You will find a long list of Pagan and Wiccan symbols and their meanings. Choose one, then go to Google, type in the name of your symbol and when the page comes up, click on images. Print the largest one (or enlarge it on a copier).
Now cut it out, tape it onto the white magnetic sheet so it doesn’t move, then trace with pencil. If you’re recycling a magnet, you will need to sand off the writing (using a fine grit sandpaper or an emery board), and then spray or brush with an exterior paint. (Ask a parent if they have any leftover cans of paint in the garage or basement you can use. Be sure to spray or brush with the magnet lying flat so the paint will dry without drips or bubbles.
Once the paint has dried thoroughly, (at least 24 hours is best), then trace or draw your symbol.
Outline in the black marker. Color in with the other markers.
You can either leave the sheet whole, or cut your symbol out for a more interesting shape. Your personal statement of the path you follow is ready to be displayed on the car, or the refrigerator, or anywhere else the sheet will cling to (just remember that magnets should never be stuck near a computer!)
Let your pride show!
